We lifted the roof of this established distillery on the Bourbon Trail in Kentucky. Because the distillery encompasses several 150 year old buildings on their campus all on the National Historical Registry there was concern that building new buildings could threaten that status.
The decision was made to increase the available area of the bottling plant and convert it to fermentation requiring the installation of several multi-million-gallon tanks that would not fit in the existing structure. Initial plans were to excavate the existing floor and create a sublevel that would provide enough clear height for the new tanks. However, it was soon discovered that the water table of the nearby Kentucky River was too high and would result in flooding this lower level.
Rapid Roof Lifter was engaged to lift the existing roof of the bottling plant 10’ to accommodate the tanks. Extreme care had to be exercised not to damage the roof of this old building. Approximately 20 Rapid Roof Lifter jacks were placed under the old roof and the entire structure which incorporated old bridge truss design and wooden planks was lifted 10’ in about 6 hours with absolutely no damage to the structure or adjacent buildings.
The end result in appearance was that the integrity of the national registry building and surrounding building was maintained, the building was now suddenly at a new height in one day!
